Rationale
In this poster, I aimed to capture the essence of the early days of cinema in a vibrant and playful manner. Iconic elements such as the historic Orpheum Theatre, an old-fashioned popcorn machine, vintage vehicles, and bustling scenes of people gathering to watch films are incorporated to transport viewers back to the birth of cinema. The comic and retro lines paired with bright, vivid colors create an engaging and nostalgic contrast.
Color Palette
The color palette and illustration style are inspired by illustrator Javi Aznarez, known for his work on Wes Anderson movie posters. A pink tone was chosen as the primary color tone due to the versatile use of red in Latin culture and its symbolism of passion and joy. The colors are desaturated, bright, and low-contrast, evoking a delightful vacation mood. Tints and shades add depth to the otherwise plain illustration, while thin black lines complement the pastel colors, adding an elegant touch.
Typography
The title features two similar typefaces with slightly different weights to create a clear hierarchy. Some strokes are connected to form distinct groups, enhancing readability. The purple color makes the title stand out without clashing with other elements. A yellow outer glow and subtle shadow separate the title from the graphics, adding a refined touch
Pass & Banner
The design was extended to passes and banners, maintaining a consistent style with plain color backgrounds, center-aligned text, and clean images. In the banner, spacing is utilized to separate text groups, and font sizes are carefully adjusted to enhance hierarchy.
Summary
This project serves as a practice in a specific illustration style and a test of its versatility. Key takeaways include effectively displaying information in various formats, maintaining consistency when incorporating images, and achieving a balance of colors. However, a drawback is the loss of depth due to a limited understanding of Latin culture.
